student support in Australia - Work Opportunities in Australia

Welcome to

Monkeys’ Work Opportunities in Australia Services

Working while you study in Australia can help enhance your overall experience. You may choose to work while you are studying, this can be an option to earn extra spending money and get a taste of the local culture and work environment. There is a strong demand for the international student workforce in the country and there are opportunities to find jobs in various industries, even very professional positions in your field of interest. However, given the flexibility of hours and the large number of opportunities some industries are much more popular for international students: retail, hospitality, farming and fruit picking (seasonal work), services like childcare or age care, administration and clerical work, and even tutoring your own language or the musical instruments you play.

Australia is a great place to study and work as an international student, but sometimes you might notice something that feels wrong. Thanks to the Monkeys Team, you will find support every step of the way as a student worker, help is always available from our team and we have dedicated staff members ready to support you to enhance your overall career opportunities while you are in Australia.

Australia also offers several different types of visas for international students which allow you to work while you are holidaying or studying here. Contact our Monkeys’ experienced team, we will provide you with the necessary advice to guide you with the job hunting process in Australia and give your career a boost!

Enhance Your Career Options!

Australia has a strong system of laws and regulations which protect the rights of all workers, including international students.
As an international student, you can work up to 40 hours every two weeks while you are studying (currently there is not cap on the number of hours you can work), and unlimited hours during holiday breaks. You have the same protections at work as anyone else working in Australia and you will get at least a minimum rate of pay per hour no matter what job you do.

If finding a job is proving hard, you can expand your work experience in Australia through volunteer work and internships. As a way to get work experience in the country, we encourage our students to participate in our work volunteering experience programs and internships we permanently organise with our business partners. Charities and non-government organisations also offer volunteer work for students; it is a great way to meet people, gain hands on work experience, and contribute to the community.

If you’re interested in staying in Australia to work after you graduate, you’ll need to get a new working visa before your student visa expires. As a graduated international student you may be eligible for different options; The Post-Study Work stream of the Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) if you have completed a Bachelor, Masters or Doctoral degree; To submit an Expression of Interest through the Australian Government’s Skill Select, seeking approval to stay in Australia as a professional worker; or State and territory government nomination for skilled and business migration.
