From Bogotá to Brisbane: Jonathan’s New Life in Australia

Meet one of our success stories from life in Australia: when Jonathan Quintero made the decision with his family to move from Bogotá (Colombia) to Brisbane (Australia), he wasn’t just starting a new chapter, he was chasing a dream. With the help of Monkeys, Jonathan and his wife found a way to build a new life abroad, one filled with personal growth, professional opportunities, and a supportive multicultural community.

We are excited to share his experience in our blog and invite you to watch his video testimonial…

Life in Australia:  A Place to Grow, Learn, and Connect

For Jonathan and his wife, Australia stood out as the ideal destination. They were drawn not only to the country’s high quality of life, but also to its rich cultural diversity and migration opportunities.

“Australia is very multicultural. That was really important for us,” Jonathan shared. “We knew we’d be able to meet people from all over the world, learn new things, and improve our English, which is so valuable for any career today.”

How It All Began: A Dream Sparked by Sport

Jonathan’s path to Australia began in an unexpected place, through his passion for underwater rugby. A fellow athlete introduced him to the team at Monkeys Team, and that introduction changed everything.

“Our process started when we contacted a Monkeys agent,” Jonathan explained. “They guided us through what we needed, from documents to expressing our intentions. They really helped us clarify and pursue our goal.”

Personalised Guidance That Changed the Plan for the Better

Initially, Jonathan planned to be the student while his wife worked. But with Monkeys’ honest and strategic advice, they realized the best route for their family was the opposite. His wife would enroll in a Kitchen Management and Cookery course, while Jonathan would focus on working and settling with his family into their new environment.

A Fulfilling Career as a Swimming Instructor in Brisbane

Now living in Brisbane for six months, Jonathan is thriving in a job he loves, teaching swimming. “I’ve been doing this since I was young, and being a swimming instructor here has allowed me to connect with different cultures, practice my English, and do what I’m passionate about.”

And he didn’t land that job on his own. His Monkeys advisor in Australia helped him secure the position by recognizing his experience and connecting him with the right opportunity.

Looking Ahead: A Migration Journey in Progress

Jonathan and his family are now exploring migration options in Australia. Their long-term goal is to make their life here permanent, and with Monkeys’ continued support, they’re taking every step with confidence.

A Message for Future Migrants and International Students

“To anyone thinking about making this move, take the first step,” Jonathan said. “A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. This has been a beautiful experience for our family, and I invite you to start your adventure with me and the Monkeys team.”
